Abstract
`titrebThe Conditions of Economic Equality`/titrebThe legitimacy of female labor is still uncertain. Since the XIXth century, financial autonomy is the obvious key to this uncertainty, for work, in one word, is freedom. Before examining the means by which to reach economic and professional equality, one must reassess work as the precondition to women’s freedom. That is why parity is not the word to suit the purpose. Parity certainly is political, linguistic and domestic. The adjectives used to qualify parity indicate where power, democratic debate, domestic and political government can be located. The necessity of this equality, however, remains to be proven through texts as well as through lawful, social and political action-taking. What is at stake is the proof and the production of equality.
