Between the concept of identity and mask, there are strong correlations and analogies: identity can be translated into a mask, strategically and circumstantial, and the mask can at the same time create a momentary identity, with which an individual seeks to hide or disclose. Building on this correlation and deepening the notion of social stigma, this article seeks to explain the use of a contemporary mask: the ravages of children and adolescents enlighten shoes on the streets of La Paz, which is a unique case in the Andean countries.
