Abstract
`titrebViolence and Saints in the Cities of Late Antiquity `/titreb In the cities of Late Antiquity saints were faced with the same various kinds of violence as any other citizen. Before 313 some of them – the martyrs – fell victims of local riots. Later other saints set fire to pagan temples in order to come to end with paganism. Finally the rest of the saints, who wanted to protect their relatives from daily upheavals, took them away to live in an ideal peaceful harmony. There are many different cases; however, Christian writers simplify reality in their writings to highlight the saint’s victory over violence thus enhancing the continuing fight of God against evil forces.
