Abstract
`titrebThe tradition of Lutheran and Reformed synods`/titrebSynodality is an essential characteristic of institutional organization and the exercise of authority in the Churches marked by the Reformation in the 16th century. This article, starting from the historical heritage, will examine the fundamental theological choices then the modes of synodality today implemented in Lutheran and Reformed Churches and the ecumenical challenge they must take up. In Reform theology, the issue is not the Church as such. It is up to the synods to see that its mission is fulfilled and to contribute to granting the Church the best chances to accomplish this.
