Abstract
the work proposes a journey through the 19th century HispanoAmerican history, in order to restore the most prominent formulations of the vast intellectual tradition of continental unity to present reflection, as well as the less prolific but not least important background of a theory of democracy in a broad, popular and participatory sense. The crossing of these two strands of our American thinking together constitutes an identity programme that still interferes with us and has a lot to contribute to the present and future projects of the Latin American homeland.
