Christophe Charle, the history and ideas of a historian

Abstract

Christophe Charle is a professor of contemporary history at the University of Paris 1. He is a specialist in social history, cultural history and comparative history. He has published numerous books on the history of intellectuals, academics, writers, theatre and the press. His works include: Social history of France in the nineteenth century (1991), The Republic of Universities (1994), The Amertuels in Europe in the nineteenth century (1996, new edition. 2001), Paris late of century, culture and politics (1998), Crisis of Imperial Societies (2001), Theatres in capitals, birth of the performing society in Paris, Berlin, London and Vienna, 1860-1914 (2008), discordance of time. A short history of modernity (2011), History of Universities XII-21st centuries (2012) and Homo Historicus. Reflection on history, historians and social sciences (2013). In 2015, he published cultural deregulation, a test of the history of cultures in Europe. How did he build her intellectual background? What influences did it guide?
