State, inequality and education: Analysis of the process of implementing public education policies for peace in Colombia

Abstract

The purpose of this research work is to investigate the processes of implementing public education policies for peace in Colombia. This was done by analysing the educational partner paths of students affected by the conflict and the pedagogical decisions and experiences of teachers and managers of educational institutions in the Moravia district of the municipality of Medellín, in the period from 2017 to 2019. The Moravia district is a territory historically built on the basis of deprivation and exclusion, isolation, precariousness and marginality. The population of this district inherited a historic conflict over the land, with repeated situations of expulsion and forced displacement, nothing far removed from the conditions of their places of origin, given that the vast majority of its inhabitants are of peasant origin displaced by the armed conflict in Colombia, who arrived in Moravia trying to rebuild their lives. The study shows a social and political commitment to publicise the subjective experiences of students who are victims of the armed conflict in Colombia and the collective actions carried out in educational institutions with populations affected by the conflict, in contrast to the analysis of public education policies for peace proposed by government bodies.
