Abstract

International audience The term “crisis” refers to an unpredictable and spectacular breaking point, whereby the established order is challenged, meaning is lost, and more or less profound changes occur. The health crisis caused by COVID-19 has affected the whole world and upset social relationships. At the time policy makers decided on the lockdown, there was no study enabling them to anticipate its impacts on the health (both physical and mental) or the social and economic life of populations. The pandemics and lockdown have impacted numerous areas of social life (family, economy, employment, education, leisure activities) including sport. In this way, every European country has experienced several lockdowns, social distancing measures and curfews, with tremendous impacts on people’s behaviors, lifestyles, health and well-being, but also on the economy of sports clubs, fitness centers, sport events and physical and sport education. Concerning the areas of physical and sport activities, two phenomena have been observed since the beginning of the crisis in March 2020: 1. a drop in physical activity among Europeans and a decline in competitive sports and sport events due to the closing of sport facilities. 2. adapting the sport practice methods to the crisis and lockdown.
