Abstract
`titrebA Code of Ethics – Yes, But How?`/titreb A code of ethics is the tool most commonly used by companies to foster an ethical culture within their walls. However, the adoption of such codes is no guarantee that the corporate culture will improve or that employees will even comply with it. In many cases, the problem lies in the manner in which the code of ethics is developed and managed. This article looks at trends in the content of codes of ethics as well as some of their desired attributes. It also presents a summary of the key steps and conditions of success for the development, implementation, management and institutionalization of a culture that genuinely promotes ethical behaviour within organizations. The article proposes a three-step management process that can serve as a step-by-step guide for organizations when developing a code of ethics.
