Reunion Island is a tiny speck in the Indian Ocean. Its history is only a few centuries old, but remains unrecognised. Memories of slavery and indentured servitude weigh heavily on the island and call for historicization in order to give voice to the various actors of these systems of economic exploitation. However, the history of Reunion Island cannot be reduced to this. It is total and connected.
