Abstract
recent migration flows, decolonisation and acculturation, and multiple demands for respect for ethnic and cultural differences are factors that explain the scientific emphasis that is now placed in the sociology of law on the observation and comparison of the phenomena of pluralism. This article shows, on the basis of observations on the ground of the marriage of Muslim Maghrébins in France, the transformations, conservations and adjustments to the legal heritage of these immigrants. The sociology of law, in the illustration given here, is a means of opening up to the multiplicity of affiliations which manifest themselves and who assert their right to expression in the context of immigration. The sociology of law can make its limited contribution to the debate on the cultural values of immigrants and how to uphold their specificity, both on the judicial stage and at the various levels of social regulation.
