Abstract
`titrebAlcohol, drugs, activities of daily living : variability of dependency objects in nursing homes`/titrebThe concept of dependency is almost omnipresent when considering the elderly, especially when they live in a nursing home, called “lodging facility for the dependent elderly” in France (ehpad). When addictive behaviors, mainly to psychoactive substances (such as alcohol or psychoactive drugs) are superimposed to the dependency for daily living activities, it is even more signifiant. In such a case, under the term of dependency, numerous notions intertwine and overlap, rarely in the interest of the elderly lofging in these institutions. At a time when paradigms in addictology and in gerontology are evolving, re-emphasizing the two main meanings of the same word of dependency can help to avoid confusing them and to overcome the impasses generated by semantic misunderstandings.
