Abstract

This article looks at the history and therapeutic interest of a memory workshop of a geriatric institution constituted by a group of residents suffering from a dementia-related deterioration syndrome, who were accompanied for four years. The singularity of this workshop consists in the structured and monitored participation, over the first two years of its elaboration, of a class of children in 4th grade in primary school (cm1), then extended to 5th grade (cm2), which served as a support of mediation and transformation. Supported by a group psychoanalytic approach, the conjonction of free association and evenly-suspended listening nourished a reciprocal transmission and triggered once again the desire to invest oneself, to invest and to create. This observation could be seen both at the individual and group level irrespective of the age. In this transitional space-time, together, they found-created in some cases, and refound-recreated in others, a singular portion of memory which constitutes this history named Intergenerational Project Workshop (Atelier projet intergénérationnel, api).
