Abstract
In April 2019, the President of the Brazilian Republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, made a statement referring to tourism in the country. Based on the theoretical-analytical device of the Materialist Discourse Analysis, the present study aims to analyze this statement discursively, made by the head of the Brazilian Executive, observing the way the saying is formulated syntactically. We pay attention to the discursivization of gender, understanding that gender and sexuality are signified by the process of ideological interpellation, which depends on the functioning of a discursive formation. We realized that, with the analysis, the statement reproduces gender violence from a conservative discursive formation, making this observation possible through a work on the syntax that constitutes the discursive sequence under analysis.
