The Narciso invested as a metaphor of me self-reflective in three contemporary Mexican novels

Abstract

These pages analyze the inverted representation of the Narcissus myth as a metaphor of self-reflection in three contemporary Mexican novels in which the metaphoric trajectory shows us how the fictionalized ego reflects itself, though the image returned is not that of the self enamored of itself but, rather, of a heartrending self-criticism. The representation of the self-reflexive ego appears as one of the most characteristic features of the new narrative, one suggesting significant changes in the conformation of the contemporary individual identity.
