Abstract
Summary: In this work, we analyse the ex post of a modality of the intra-urban migration process, i.e. the effect of the decision to move or seek an alternative housing by a large number of family units entering the process. An aggregate analysis of this nature implies approaching the changes in the metropolitan structure of Mexico City at the end of the period in which intra-politan mobility occurs (1995-2000). It is therefore not a question of showing the spatial differentiation pattern at a given time, but of discovering the changing trends that the urban structure experiences over time, unlike a synchronous cut-off using ‘stock’ variables to show a spatial distribution pattern of these variables. We have subdivided the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City into concentric rings and urban areas or sectors. This is a resource that has a long history in urban social geography to simplify distribution patterns for individuals and households with multiple economic and social characteristics that interact in a complex way in urban space. The use of these spatial models makes it possible to assess the relationships between the characteristics of the dwelling, the attributes of residents and their location in urban space.
