Abstract
Francis turbine tests on scale models and a full-scale industrial unit.- Effect of blade form on various machine characteristics. The tests described are different from ordinary acceptance tests in that they enabled the flow conditions at the runner exit to be analysed, by taking measurements at points along a certain radius at the draught tube entry. The radial discharge and energy distributions are expressed by coefficients which are shown as varying with load and head. Some of the pressure and velocity measurements previously obtained on Alsthom-Charmilles turbines by the “Electricité de France” were repeated on scale models at the“ Ateliers des Charmilles” laboratories, and the validity of these tests can be confirmed by comparing their results with the industrial tests. Useful blade form design data are provided by the measurements taken on the downstream side of three different models intended for the same plant. The experimental data are completed by a few theoretical considerations.
