Abstract
International audience In this paper, we examine the role of the working tools of geriatrics and oncology in the organization of medical work in geriatric oncology. To assess the role and place of geriatricians, we used a sociological survey conducted during the West Paris geriatric oncology program (POGOP), one of the coordinating geriatric oncology pilot units (UPCOG) set up in France. Qualitative methods were used, including a literature review, observations of participants (work session) and semi-structured interviews with physicians (stakeholders in the medical care of cancer patients). The results showed the way in which these working tools for geriatrics and oncology are mobilized and confirmed the central role of geriatricians in the prevention and screening of vulnerabilities and frailty of elderly patients receiving cancer care both at the time of initial diagnosis and medical decision-making. However, these different work techniques may be employed in different organizational and professional configurations that may or may not be important to the geriatrician.
