Abstract
For decades, irregular settlements in southern Quito have been characterised by persistent legal instability and a lack of municipal attention in terms of basic services. However, due to strong social cohesion and self-management of their living space, they have managed to initiate administrative regularisation processes, while the expansion of the planned city has allowed for several urbanisation supported by the municipality, which are in contrast with this problem.
