Abstract
This investigation examines changes in body image and body mass index over a period of 11 years in a sample of Spanish adolescents aged between 13 and 21 years. The data come from two sub-samples collected in 1997 (n = 3468) and 2008 (n = 846). The body image was operationalised through the perto-necent body dissatisfaction scale in the inventory of dietary behaviour disorders (Garner, 1998, 2004). The results showed that the body mass index is an important co-variable in the body dissatisfaction study. A non-significant decrease in the me-node values of body dissatisfaction was observed in the sample of women. Male scores have not changed over the last 11 years.
