Equality at work: Justice and mobilisations against discrimination

Abstract

Since twenty years, the right to non-discrimination has largely been in place. The term ‘discrimination’ is now used for the operation of many treatment plants. But what about its uses? Why and how do individuals work discrimination before the courts? What problems do they encounter? This book is concerned with the appropriation of this discrimination factor in labour disputes. On the basis of an ethnographic approach to complainants and lawmakers (CGT and SOS Racism), it tracks the difficult course of life for victims in front of men and authorities in order to make this right more effective. Drawing on the contributions of a pragmatic sociology of law, the book shows how legal rules are capable of establishing justice at work on an ad hoc basis. Make the law a valuable lever for the ability of advocacy organisations to reconcile legal grammar with the concern of victims and a transformative horizon of social practices.
