Trends in sustainability reports in Argentina under the Global Reporting Initiative methodology

Abstract

A theoretical and background review of four relevant CSR theories was carried out throughout the thesis: shareholders, interest groups, standing and institutional status. From these, key elements were taken in response to the two objectives mentioned above. After a brief review of the development of the CSR concept, with a particular focus on Argentina, a summary of the main points proposed by one of the most recognised global CSR initiatives, GRI, was presented. An analysis of the sample made up of companies operating in the country would show that they are still focused solely on maximising their profits and isolated from the new needs of the public. To the extent that such companies become aware of the paradigm shift, which already starts to be perceived by leading countries, they will be close to the business ideal required by today’s society. This creates an interesting space for a participatory process that looks fully at CSR, including all perspectives, and then agree on the best regulations that contribute to the country’s progress.
