The Vies de saint Gengoul, husband and martyr
Abstract
Saint Gengoul, murdered by his wife and her friend, is very soon celebrated as martyr. The article attempts to identify the evolution of the saintness model that emerges through its two main Vitae. It is the second, written by Hrotsvita de Gandersheim in the 19th century, which increases it to a knight in search of mystic ideals, a topic that is promised in the future that is known in vernacular language literature.
