Abstract
Target summary: Due to the fact that rural areas in Mexico are undergoing processes of exclusion, marginalisation and poverty, it is therefore necessary to generate viable strategies enabling the construction of possible futures on the basis of comprehensive methodologies, the aim of the work is to design a methodological proposal from the fifth helix and foresight. Methodology: A literature review was carried out considering the criteria established by PRISMA. Results: The methodological approaches highlighted in rural tourism studies are: environmental, social, economic, institutional, cognitive and territorial. In addition, both foresight and the fifth helix are viable and relevant methodological models for the analysis, implementation and evaluation of rural tourism. Limitations: It is a methodological sketch which has not yet been applied in practice. Conclusions: The theoretical and methodological validity of propellers and foresight are relevant to rural tourism, the generation of spaces for dialogue, reflection and construction with inhabitants interested in tourism, researchers who are experts in rural tourism, government institutions, businesses and entrepreneurs and other actors identified in the field work.
