Abstract
`titrebThe Women’s Movement in Morocco`/titrebThis article offers an historical overview of the struggle for emancipation and of the women’s movement in Morocco. The struggle has taken many forms over the years and within different feminist groups. It has included resistance to colonial reform frameworks ; engagement with mainstream State structures and initiatives after independence, involvement in social and charitable work, and also in trades unions and left-wing parties since the 1970s. Women have come together to found social and professional organisations and, since the 1980s, there has been a feminist reinterpretation of Islam. Gradually, this autonomous feminist movement and women’s mobilisation have made a real contribution to improving the status and everyday lives of women in Morocco.
