Abstract
In this article, the author questions the reasons for Turkey’s emergence as a reference, an example or even a model for the countries won by the Arab Spring. Turkey’s new geopolitical role is described here as a process of emancipation from Western policies and assertive as a regional actor. Turkey’s visibility in the Middle East is due to this acquired legitimacy. Its singularity stems from its democratic capacity to incorporate the Islamic Referent. Turkey’s exemplarity means Europe’s decentment as the exclusive home of democratic imagination.
