Abstract
Summary: The term Sodoma has served to characterise a particular type of sexual practice. This article reviews the receipt of the term within the ‘Protréptico de Clemente’ in Alexandria. From a synchronous methodological approach, Prot. 103.4’s passage is analysed to conclude that there is no indication of a sexual stereotype in Sodoma’s interpretation. Instead, there are other main thematic reasons such as criticism of custom, idolatry and hardening of the heart. This is intended to make it clear that not all Sodoma’s readings in ancient Christianity imply sexual stigmatisation.
