Abstract
This article is intended to analyse, from a historical perspective, the melancholic suicide that occurred on the Yucatrian estate during porphyriate. 12 cases were reported, both in the 19th century meridan press and in judicial documents from legal doctors. It is important to revisit the way melancoly is perceived in the Iucateco Porfirian decimononic speech. This work analyses the perceptions of the time of voluntary death, coupled with a psychiatric pathology, melancoly.
