Territory and population transfers following Roman conquest in the south-eastern mainland: from Tagili ibera to the new Roman Tagili

Abstract

"Territory and Population Transfers during the Roman Conquest in South East Spain : From the Iberian Tagili to the New Roman Tagili". This paper studies the changes in the territory of the Southeast of the Iberian Peninsula after the Roman conquest. These changes are specified in the West Valley of the Almanzora river (Almería, Spain). The present analysis focuses on the Iberian settlement, with special emphasis on the oppidum of Tagili, located in “ Muela del Ajo” (Tíjola). It also takes into account the incidence of Roman power after the conquest ; which takes its most significant form in the abandonment of this ancient settlement and the construction of a new urban center at the nearby place of the “Estación de Tíjola/ Cela.”
