Assessment of cognitive aspects in adults: analysis of approved toolkits

Abstract

Psychological assessment is a specialist practice of the psychologist, however, for proper implementation, tools are needed that include minimum requirements, such as psychometric studies of the validity and precision of the instruments and robust theoretical reference. In addition, approval of the Psychological Test Assessment System (SATEPSI) is required for its professional use. The aim of this study was to conduct an analysis of cognitive evaluation tests for available adults approved by SATEPSI in order to provide data on cognitive aspects assessed, their psychometric properties and the quality of the information contained in their manual. In total, 57 tools assessing cognitive aspects in adults have been included, with intelligence and attention being the most studied constructs. Most of them had an appropriate relationship between psychometric studies and test indication criteria. It is important to build more tools for the evaluation of different cognitive processes, as well as a clearer presentation of the characteristics of the instruments in the manuals marketed.
