In this article we support the view that Trotsky’s stay in Mexico for just three and a half years was constantly overburdened and its tragic end was part of the dynamics of power embodied in the USSR and in the international situation of those days, and at the same time we want to shed light on certain statements, old and recent, which seek allegedly ‘objective’ justifications for his death. In any event, there can be no doubt as to Stalin’s direct responsibility for the murder. The archives of the Mexican intelligence service show that it provided insufficient protection in the face of Stalinian astutia. It is needless to add that these documents were not available to the investigators.
