The research project to develop thesis aims at explaining the spatial, symbolic, technological, function and use of the dwelling in the Rio de la Plata in the postrimeries of the colonial period. Borobonic reforms were a set of high-political decisions aimed at strengthening Iberian power in the colonies in the face of the dynamic development of the Inglés capitalist system, establishing the Spanish monarchy mechanisms to regain political control, strengthen coercion and enable Iberian power to better take over resources. The Plata area was called by the Portuguese, British and smuggled units, the fragmentation of production units with their own hinterland led the colonial regime to make changes to the economic political system, incorporating Buenos Ayres into the new trading system and at the same time as a control element, founded the virreinate, the Royal Court, the Consulate. The monarchy brought administrative bureaucracy to Buenos Ayres. The Spanish strategy of domination in the area and a geopolitical need shaped the economic growth of the dark and remote village of the Spanish empire ‘the forgotten village’. This created a hub of commercial exchange, a focus on immigration in a revitalised economic area, structuring a new city. In that context, there were strong internal and external migration, which led to heavy tensions in urban areas and within the social system, where a rising elite called for increasing shares of trade and power; it generated intensive use of urban land and a new ‘new’ architectural aesthetics, embodied in the formal language of neoclassicism. These contributions guide and give theoretical support to another view of history, therefore in thesis work, applying spatial variables, patterns of settlement, land use and land take, form of economic accumulation and identity in the broadest sense of the term, enrich research and facilitate the intersecting of the network that will enable people to ‘read’ through housing and interpret the social value of the house. This is why the research process is not a simple descriptive process, but the sum of analytical categories that integrate it allows a meaningful view of the men and women that are the subject of our interest.
