Abstract

The notion of network has known many applications since the publishing of Networks of Power. It has become evident by now that the growth of networks should not be seen as linear or deterministic. There are many ways for networks to grow or to relate to each other. As the examples of railways, electricity and Internet show it, we should not forget the role played, for instance, by politics, the users, and the norms and standards. Moreover, in order to complete the theory of “reverse salients”, it is important to stress the convergence of networks belonging to different technical domains and the state of technoscientific knowledge. There is no doubt that integrating and converging networks can be seen as social construction. On the other hand, the knowledge and the know-how ensuring their good functioning depend on a universally oriented technoscience.
