Work presented at the Northwest Regional Communications Bureau (NOA) of the 19th National Archaeology Congress of Argentina, held in San Miguel de Tucumán from 8 to 12 August 2016. The village Adbón Castro Tolay (23° 20 ‘34 “S, 66° 05′ 23″ W; 3600 msnm), also called Barrancas for the powerful flame-retardants highlighted in the local landscape, is located in the department of Cochinoca, PunaSeca (Jujuy), 40 km to the NNO of the Grandes Salinas (Figure 1). The area studied lies in a tectonic depression which is part of a larger depressed structure occupied in its lowest sector by the Great Salines and the Guayatayoc Lagoon. The sub-basin of the River Barrancas has been declared a Natural and CulturalMunicipal Reserve because of its richness in breaking art. Indeed, it has numerous localities with breakthrough demonstrations, where we took over 41 sites with a total of 145 panels and more than 1100 motives. These demonstrations took the form of wers, caves and rock scarves and spread over several kilometres on both sides of the river Barrancas. In 2012, at the request of the Municipal Commission, the Barrrancas Archaeological Project was launched on the basis of three general objectives: 1- investigate the characteristics of Holocenic environments in different temporal and spatial scales; analyse the development of the hot landscape and the nature of the impact of environmental changes on the social strategiesof human groups over time, especially those corresponding to late Holoceno (last 3500 years).2- Study paints and breakthrough recordings in relation to social processes in the area and analyse, in the case of paints, components and contaminants. 3- manage archaeological cultural heritage, in particular with regard to breakthrough representations and their interaction with the community by drawing up a Conservation Plan and establishing an Interpretation Centre.
