Abstract
The basic objective of this article is to explain the expression of gender-based violence as a result of differential socialisation and processes of social and cultural legitimacy of violence. Several projects developed in different European countries for the prevention of violence and the use of research action in the development of educational programmes are reviewed. The Education for the present without violence programme seeks to decouple patriarchal masculinity from gender-based violence by introducing alternatives based on conflict resolution, sentimental education and culture of peace, including interculturalism and gender-based violence.
