Networked discovery services: the Google model’s experience for users of university libraries

Abstract

contextualises the use of networked discovery services in university libraries, which need to take account of the demand from users that is increasingly demanding in terms of performance for the search and retrieval of information. P retends to collaborate in understanding these tools, highlighting the R- mat of its central index, the structuring of the facetted search, the criteria of relativeness used and the presentation of the results in a single list. It uses the bibliographic method to select relevant national and international literature on the topic. It concludes that the Libraries should revisit the reach of their catalogues in order to maintain — if they are connected to users’ mental models and information needs. Networked discovery services, integrated with other information services, have the potential to improve the search experience. These tools should be designed based on the experience of searching and commuting rivers to balance their needs and expectations with the capabilities of the system.
