Educational innovations: an experience of environmental education in Parque Saint-Barthélemy — El Salvador, Bahia, Brazil
Disciplines

Abstract

The text presents an environmental education experience in nine schools of the public municipal network of Salvador-Bahia, Brazil, developed more intensively during the years 1994 to 1997 and coordinated by ong, São Bartolomeu-CEASB Environmental Education Centre, in agreement with the Municipal Prefecture and neighbourhood associations. Treated as an ethical issue, Environmental Education has as its pedagogical purpose the relationship that individuals have with their entourage by seeking to discuss the place that human beings should occupy in nature. From that point of view, the place where the schools are located, the Piraver Metropolitan Park, which is characterised as an ethnic and historical site of the city of Salvador-Bahia, plays an important role. This proposal follows the general thrust of research, has as its central focus the interest of students and seeks to regain the creative sense of the teacher’s work in the process of collectively building an interdisciplinary curriculum. This experience makes a contribution to the integration of the person fragmented by the individualism of Ilustração, since it combines action and reflection, incorporates the concept of the citizen managing his place, the dependence between the public and private spheres, and, with the re-discovery of posts, reconnect humans with nature by building a new system of values and beliefs. The citizen takes his place where he or she lives.
