The emergence of alternative housing in the media: when our houses reflect our aspirations for renewed governance

Abstract

This memory, thanks to contemporary media developments, explores the emergence of the topic of civic autonomy through the treatment of alternative habitats. Composed during a six months immersion at ENSCI, it is the result of a parallel reflection between the communication study and the scope of design research. In order to carry out this work, we used the Semiological analysis of the content uploaded by the project promoters, but also of press articles and scientific literature, including the work of Cornelius Castoriadis. The aim is to be aware of the growing importance of this challenge, linked both to intimate comfort and in conjunction with a social and urban dimension, from a long-term perspective. As respect for the environment and the preservation of resources is a key issue at present, it is necessary to ascertain whether or not living in a structure as described above engages citizens’ behaviour on the part of the inhabitants of these new places of life.
