Abstract
The question is why Jean Fourbault is so important in Art history? New researches have shown he is not only a romanesque character of Notre-Dame de Paris written by Victor Hugo, he is one of the major painter (even the best one) of his time, in the Paris of the year 1500. Domanial and judiciary archives let us drawn his life since his former carrier in the familial dwelling to his public death ceremony in the streets of the capital. This is a real success story! Behind the study of the places of the artistic creation, this paper enlights multiple forms of workshops and sociabilities in the Middle Ages. Jean Fourbault directed picturial projects in Notre-Dame of Paris as well as scenographies of royal entries. Not only talentuous, he had managed to attach him a prestigious clientele by staying linked to the friends of his father who are also the most famous painter of their generation (Jean Fouquet, Colin d’Amiens).
