The impact of Nelson Traquina’s work on Brazilian Journalism Studies: syncrôic and diacrônic study from years of national scientific events

Abstract

This article analyses the impact of Nelson Traquina’s work on journalism studies in Brazil, based on bibliometric studies in work presented at Congresses of Journalism and Communication in Brazil. To this end, it recovers results from previously published studies and presents new data, produced especially for this paper, relating to works presented at events in 2019, in a syncrone search, and over two decades (2000-2019) from a diacrôn perspective. From a joint analysis of these data, it concludes that Nelson Traquina has, throughout that period, been a author with a high impact on Brazilian journalism research, and more recently the impact of his authoritative work has become more significant than that observed in his work of publicising the international literature of Journalism Studies for the Portuguese language. Compared to congresses bringing together post-graduate and graduate researchers in Brazil in 2019, the impact of Traquina’s work on post-graduate research is greatest.
