Abstract
`titrebAvoiding Conflict Related to Diversity: The Intercultural Approach as Management Practice`/titreb The growth of ethno-cultural diversity within Quebec society has created numerous specific challenges for organizations. The issue of diversity – whether at different levels of government, in educational institutions, SMBs or large corporations – exposes in clear terms the often conflictual relations that exist between various social players. Managers of public, para-public and private organizations find themselves confronted with new dynamics that force them to question the management models on which their work environments are structured. In this context, and considering the growing number of requests for dispensations or certain privileges originating in different groups, intercultural management increasingly appears to offer a viable solution to ease potential conflicts. By reviewing some of the underlying premises of intercultural management, this article explores the possibilities and limitations of intercultural management in the context of Quebec. In this regard, we postulate that, to be effective, intercultural management cannot be limited to its cultural dimension; rather, it must be integrated in a set of management practices encompassing the different aspects of organizations.
