Abstract
National audience. This chapter shows why and how researchers associate themselves with non-researchers involved in transforming reality into research and action in partnership (RAP), in order to build a knowledge-generating facility with them. Research and action in partnership arises from a meeting between a research intention and a desire to change actors within negotiated partnerships. It can be seen as an innovation, as it involves significant changes in research arrangements, in particular in terms of governance, methods and practices. The mutual learning of the actors involved in this process improves their ability to decide, explore and act together. In this way, actors deploy their powers to act for the future, which is the basis for sustainable development.
