Abstract
Summary. Recent studies conducted with regard to the glass-making craft industry in modern times in the South of France have brought new light to certain issues linked to technological know-how, in particular those concerning glasses decorated with enamel, gilt and white trails in the 16th century. The archaeological data are still few and the imbalance with the northern regions is significant. By contrast, the historical documentation has proven plentiful: it provides evidence of both a substantial production and an undeniable know-how on the part of local craftsmen, having no apparent links to the migration of Italian glass-workers. It was therefore essential to study this question in order to display the regional particularities as well as the ambiguities that exist between the historical sources and the reality of the archeological discoveries.
