The use of data to analyse local determinants of COVID-19 The use of data to analyse local determinants of COVID-19: An example from the COVID-19 article: spatial analysis of the influence of socio-economic factors on the prevalence and consequences of the epidemic in the French departments

Abstract

National audience This intervention presents the method of analysis and the results of research into the socio-economic determinants of COVID-19 hospital and death rates, as well as the excess mortality observed in 2020 compared to previous years. It is based on a regional approach to these issues through the use of public data calculated at the level of the French departments. Our exploratory spatial analysis shows a spatial spread effect of the disease and its consequences. The use of spatial econometric models then highlights the influence of the care system and social capital on the phenomena studied.
