Images of dreams as remnants of childhood sexuality. Images of dreams and white sexuality

Abstract

`titreb Dream Images as Vestiges of Child Sexuality. Dream Images and White Sexuality. `/titreb This article is rooted in clinical practice with a female patient in analysis, a number of dreams she related and how images from those dreams shed light on non-elaborated remnants of child sexuality. Interpreting a dream is akin to an archaeological dig, during which certain vestiges are excavated from the terrain of child sexuality, then used in turn by the subject to reappropriate their own history (elaboration of traces). It was by following the chain of associations triggered by dream fragments during a session of analysis that the notion of white sexuality has been elaborated. The term refers to a form of sexuality devoid of bodily traces, of a body both immaculate and without orifices, fuelled by fantasies and contacts filtered by an intermediary screen. The dream image provides an opportunity to further explore the notion of the psychical image as an indicator of psychical time, functioning as an on the spot pointer to analytical matter, revealing mishaps and other residue. In the continuous flux of the analyst’s history, such images unceasingly generate the origin of what is linked with prior tension, and not with what is definitively born from it. The image is, then, in the process of becoming as part of a psychical movement – in other words the point of origin in turn forced forward by the destiny of the image.
