Summary The current environmental situation of the urban area of the municipality of Facatativá is the response to historical events that have been presented in the face of territorialisation processes, expressed in urbanisation and industrialisation. In order to understand the environmental problems in the urban area of this municipality on the basis of its territorial analysis, the urban territorial configuration between 1980 and 2010 was determined on the basis of a geo-historical, geopolitical and environmental approach. It was noted that Facatativá has been facing complex environmental problems that have an impact on the recognition of the value of the environment and natural resources, quality of life and environmental sustainability. In this respect, territorial environmental management becomes the strategy that provides guidelines for spatial planning, promoting equality, equity and sustainable development.
