[argument] The challenge of freedom. International and multidisciplinary symposium at FLSH Limoges, 24-25 November 2016

Abstract

Call for Communication and Arguments. The challenge of freedom. International and multidisciplinary colloquium at the FLSH in Limoges from 24 to 25 November 2016The ambivalence of the concept of freedom is a major issue in any thinking about the relationship between individual and community, between regional autonomy and central power, between individual action and dogma. In the history of ideas, it is freedom thinking that seeks to assert the individual’s autonomy. It is part of the political philosophy as it is in the fields of arts and letters, either in the form of a claim or with the specific aim of producing utopic visions through concrete projects — such as the creation of autonomous communities and artists’ workshops, or ecological and alteram globalist actions. Often — sometimes for good reasons, sometimes wrongly — as anarchist, libertarian can also be regarded as the heir of a certain radical liberalism now undermined in our ‘modern democracies’. The libertarian challenge remains relevant — in a world where security and the economy take precedence over the individual and its integrity, where the last representatives of political liberalism resign, where the ‘Republic of algorithms’ with its system of assessments transforms societies, where habeas corpus eventually turns into a habpus. The colloquium’s focus will be placed on the question of the autonomy of the individual or of its collective representations, and on human representations. Another area of interest will be the impact of a liberal attitude in the arts and in political action. http://www.fabula.org/actualites/le-defi-libertaire_74768.php; http://www.unilim.fr/recherche/2016/06/30/defi-libertaire colloquium programme: http://www.fabula.org/actualites/le-defi-libertaire_76537.php
