The process of urbanisation and economic development of the municipalities of the State of Nayarit, Mexico, 1990-2010

Abstract

The changes to the territory are analysed from economic and social approaches in the light of concerns about development. There is a priority to reduce the costs of transactionof agricultural, industrial or service economic activities, i.e. the economies of escalationhave led to the agglomeration of people and production processes in certain territories.Mexico and, in particular, the state of Nayarit has witnessed processes of territorial transformation in which economic externalisation is combined as a result of prioritising tourism and urban concentration resulting from the development policy of the last three administrations.This work uses the Urban Decentralisation Index, Urban Decentralisation Index and Grado deUrbanisation index, with the aim of comparing them with the number of economic units and with the urban population economically active in 1990. those considered to be serranos are lagging behind compared to those in which tourism has been promoted. The analysis of the aforementioned indices contributes to the reduction of the knowledge gap with respect to the Nayarit statistics.
