Abstract

The operating profits of Ferme corresponded to the tax revenue minus administrative and labour costs minus the lease price. According to George T. Matthews, the tax revenue generated by Ferme amounted to GBP 243 496 300 in 1788, i.e. GBP 58,5 million for the gauges, GBP 30,5 million for the tobacco monopoly, GBP 28,4 million for milking, GBP 49 million for aid and GBP 30 million for the Paris entries and EUR 31 million for the management of the fields.
