Abstract
In recent years, the preservation and valorisation of Cultural Heritage has grown on the scale of priorities of our society. There is a growing need to digitise cultural goods using new technologies. The acquisition of 3D images is one of them. However, while 3D registration techniques are widely disseminated worldwide, they have almost no history of development or application in Argentina. On the other hand, the preservation and documentation of contemporary art presents new particular problems in relation to traditional art, particularly in installation and ephemeral art. This thesis explores the possibilities and limitations of new 3D registration, virtual reality and augmented reality technologies, in traditional and contemporary art, particularly in the preservation and documentation of museum collections. A free 3D image recording system developed using digital photogrammetry, low-cost instruments and free software is presented. Faculty of Fine Arts
